A teenager was shot and killed as he tried to get away from a group of carjackers.

The victim, Deandre Elliott, 17, of Houston, suffered gunshot wounds to the head and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Elliott’s uncle says the teen pulled into the Cullen Park apartments in southeast Houston last night to visit his girlfriend. Several men approached the victim, demanded his car, and shot him once. He tried to run away, but the men fired more shots, killing the teenager.

Witnesses reported seeing a suspect, described only as a black male in his early twenties, fleeing the scene in Elliott’s vehicle. The vehicle is described as a 1993, four-door, blue-green Buick Park Avenue, with Texas license plates 552-GNK. The Buick has custom wire spoke wheels known as “elbow wire rims” and white wall tires.

According to HISD officials, Elliott played football for Worthing High School. Counselors have been sent to the school.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
