I went to the Tyler Perry Play- Madea’s Big Happy Family over the weekend with my wife and I really enjoyed it. I normally do not like plays, and the singing really doesn’t appeal to me at all, but I actually like Tyler’s stuff. Dude was actually preaching, in his own kinda way.

At the end of the play, he comes out on stage with the entire cast, three of which are from Houston (H-town has some talent, I tell ya….), and he talks about his new movie coming out soon, then he plays the trailer below.

For Colored Girls is based on Ntozake Shange’s award-winning 1975 For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. Comprised of a series of poems, the play revolves around seven women known only by their color dealing with issues of rape, abortion and domestic violence, among others.

Directed by Tyler Perry, the film stars Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Kimberly Elise, Thandie Newton, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Whoopi Goldberg, Macy Gray, Michael Ealy, Hill Harper, Khalil Kain, Omari Hardwick and Richard Lawson.

This the first time this many top black women have ever shared the movie screen and the movie is slated for a November release so that it can be eligible for Oscar consideration. Do you think it can be Oscar worthy? Comment below….
