An accident involving a big rig shut down a northeast Houston freeway interchange in all directions Thursday afternoon, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The 18-wheeler overturned on the Eastex Freeway northbound ramp at the North Loop westbound shortly before 2 p.m.

TxDOT said the truck was carrying isopropyl alcohol, which is highly flammable.

Crews are offloading it to another truck. In order to move the material safely and ensure there is no spillage, officials said they closed the following freeways:

US 59 southbound to IH 610 eastbound — detour to IH 610 westbound

US 59 northbound to IH 610 westbound — detour to IH 610 eastbound

IH 610 eastbound to US 59 northbound — detour to US 59 southbound

Drivers were asked to avoid the area for several hours until the site could be cleared. The roadways are expected to remain closed until 6 or 7 p.m.

Officials said no chemicals leaked from the truck.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. No one was injured.
