A glaze of high clouds has been drifting in throughout the afternoon, especially along the coast.  One of my producers here called me in a panic this afternoon.  He glanced up at a monitor in the newsroom where he can see a feed for HD Doppler which shows showers in Corpus Christi and Brownsville. “Is that coming here?”, he asked (he really wasn’t in a panic).  I reassured him that while there are showers down there, the closest they’ll get will be near Matagorda Bay by tomorrow.  However, my initial optimism for a blue-sky weekend is waning.  Don’t get me wrong – it’ll still be quite nice, warm, but not hot, and not humid.  Low pressure in extreme south Texas will continue to generate clouds and showers there, but the majority of the rain will end up in the Gulf.  The clouds, though may mix with sunshine here this weekend.

Here’s a rundown of the weather for some of the many things going on around town:

Downtown Saturday and Sunday is the Children’s Festival in Sam Houston and Tranquility Parks:

The Astros are looking for that elusive first series of wins against the Phillies.  Games are 7:05 tonight, 6:05 tomorrow and 1:05 Sunday:

Finally, the Dynamo are in action Saturday night at 7:30 over at Robertson Stadium again the L.A. Galaxy.  No Beckham or Ching, but we’re still hoping for a victory:
