You may have seen the movie or the television series about it — now you’re going to see the real “flying nun.”

The hard work and determination of St. Agnes Academy students in Houston have so far raised more than $50,000 for Haiti relief.

As part of that fundraiser, one school leader agreed to take to the skies to honor the commitment made by students if they collected $25,000 for Haiti earthquake victims.

Sr. Jane Meyer, O.P. jumped from the plane several thousand feet above the earth’s surface on Sunday afternoon.

The school says Sr. Jane agreed to make the jump if the students raised enough money. Not only did they meet the requirement, they more than doubled it with a week still to go.

Three weeks into the month-long campaign, the school community has raised $52,353.97. All of the funds will be given to those in need in Haiti through Catholic Relief Services.

Students raised the money by hosting talent shows, t-shirt sales, art shows, bake sales, and more.
