A grace period for people who have not paid their citations after they were caught on camera running red lights ends this weekend.

The vehicle owners were given a 60-day grace period to pay fines and other past-due penalties, but it ends Saturday, according to the Houston Police Department.

About 77,800 registered owners of vehicles that were recorded running lights were mailed letters that their payments were due. If the fines are not paid by Jan. 30, owners will be prevented from renewing their vehicle registration, Houston police said.

People with registration holds can register their vehicles within two to three business days by paying the fine in person, online and by phone or mail.

Once the fine is paid and the hold is released, the owner can register the vehicle.

Motorists who want to verify if they have pending notices of violation can check by entering their license plate numbers online at http://www.violationinfo.com/TXHOU/Checkplate.
