Black History Month is the time in which we celebrate historical African American people, events and culture. Here is a list of local community events celebrating our rich black history during the month of February.

Don’t miss the Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959, a collaboration with Blue Note Records. This immersive experience captures a critical period of history through the lens of jazz music and its most iconic innovator. Featuring the Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet and Donald E. Lacey, Jr, narrator. Friday, November 3, at 7:30 p-m. Admission is free!

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture and the Houston public library presents “Save our African-American Treasures” Saturday, October 29 from ten a.m. until four p.m. at the central library, located at 500 McKinney street, Houston. Bring up to three treasured objects to be reviewed free in a one-on-one consultation with museum experts. You could be in possession of a significant piece of African-American history! Ceramics, uniforms, quilts, photos, historic documents and much more are welcome. Attendees will receive a free treasures preservation kit! Come to the central library on Saturday, October 29th from 10am until 4pm and help save our African-American treasures.

New Oasis of Faith Church invites ALL women to the New Oasis Family Life Center for their 1st Monthly Women’s League Luncheon with Keynote Speaker, Rags to Riches Specialist – Dr. Elon Bomani on “A WOMAN OF STRENGTH”.
