Not Jus' DonutsA local family-owned bakery will be featured with Buddy “Cake Boss” Valastro for his TLC series “Buddy’s Bakery Rescue” this week.

Myrtle Zachary Jackson opened the Not Jus Donuts Bakery in Houston’s historic Third Ward area in 2000 with the help of her daughters Andrea Jackson and Rosharon Cotton. The trio has struggled to keep the business alive amid tragedies and the nation’s economic downturn.

Although quitting was never an option for the determined family, it was definitely getting hard to keep the business going. So when Andrea heart about TLC taking applications from bakeries for the show, she sent in an application.

She and her mother and sister were surprised when a production crew arrived to check out the business but thrilled to learn they had been picked for the show.

Buddy’s Bakery Rescue – formerly airing as “Bakery Boss” – shows Valastro, who turned his own family-run neighborhood bakery Carlo’s into a baking business empire, helping family-run bakeries with his business skills and bakery expertise so they can realize their own dreams of success.

Valastro understands the challenges of running a business and the complications that can arise when doing it with relatives.

The Not Jus’ Donuts episode airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on TLC. To help celebrate the event, Not Jus Donuts Bakery is hosting a viewing party that evening at Grooves of Houston, 2300 Pierce Street. This event is free and open to the public. Door open at 7 p.m., and the festivities start at 7:30. Bakery refreshments will be served.
