(HOUSTON, TX)– Violence, voting and saggin’ pants- -those are just some of the things Houston area fourth and fifth graders say Dr. Martin Luther King Junior would address, if he were speaking at a March on Washington today.   Nearly 400 students delivered original speeches in the semi-finals of the Gardere Mlk Jr. Oratory Competition.

Claude Treece is with Gardere, Wynne, Sewell– -the law firm which sponsors the yearly contest.

“It allows them to think about Dr. King and it shines a spotlight on them and their talents and abilities, but it also commemorates Dr. King and his legacy and this year in particular, the March on Washington which i think is important for us to always keep in the forefront of our thinking”

Twelve students will move on to compete in the final round next Friday.
