Grammy Nominee and multiple Stellar Award winner VaShawn Mitchell performed yesterday, June 5th at the 50th Anniversary Memorial Service commemorating the assassination of civil rights leader Medgar Evers.

The service took place at Arlington National Cemetery yesterday morning as part of an on going effort presented by the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Institute.   Additional events will take place throughout the month of June to “Honor His Life and Live His Legacy.”

Mitchell sang his chart topping song “Nobody Greater” to a crowd of dignitaries, clergy and political leaders.  Roland Martin emceed the event and among the luminaries in attendance included Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams, Chairman Emeritus, National Board of Directors NAACP; former President William Jefferson Clinton; current NAACP President, Benjamin Jealous and US Attorney General Eric Holder.

Mitchell is traveling the country as part of Verizon’s nationwide “How Sweet The Sound” experience as well as continuing his work as an ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters.  His new single “Greatest Man,” from his critically acclaimed release Created 4 This was recently serviced to gospel radio.
