Once led by the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, CCM sold off books, office supplies, music, knick-knacks, inspirational gifts, and other collectibles Saturday, from the morning until early afternoon.

According to an ad posted in the Orange County Register, the sale was held at the Family Life Center on the third floor of the Cathedral, with transactions being done with cash only.

The Schuller family founded Crystal Cathedral Ministries in 1955, which grew to be one of the largest Christian ministries in California. Among its many outreach programs, one of the most famous was the Rev. Schuller’s “Hour of Power” program.

In 2010, CCM had to file for bankruptcy as it faced lawsuits for the debts it owed vendors from the 2009 “Glory of Christmas” production. The Crystal Cathedral church is now called “Christ Cathedral” after the Garden Grove property was purchased by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange for $57.5 million last year.

With Pastor Robert V. “Bobby” Schuller presently heading the “Hour of Power” and John Charles being President and CEO, Crystal Cathedral Ministries will be moving to St. Callistus Catholic Church, which is a mile away from the large sanctuary they once called home.

n a recent statement, the Rev. Schuller’s son Robert A. Schuller stated that “The Crystal Cathedral Ministries, the assets and the buildings, would still be in the hands of the ministries if my father would have simply walked away.”

“When I accepted the role as the next senior pastor he had agreed to be an ambassador-at-large and raise funds for the endowment fund. He didn’t do that. He became a sounding board for my sisters and other people that didn’t particularly care for the new direction for whatever reason,” said R.A. Schuller.
