A familiar name and a familiar face are teaming up to take the Gospel scene by storm.

CeCe Winans has signed as Motown Gospel‘s first artist, and is expected to release her first record in five years in 2014. The new label, a product of the Universal Music and EMI merger, “is poised to be an instant force on the gospel scene,” the Detroit Free Press reports.

The label’s chief, Barry Weiss, says the label is a natural extension of Motown records.

“We see Motown Gospel as brand extension,” said Weiss, in an interview with the Free Press. “Motown stands for great artists, and it can do that with gospel music.”

Other artists on Motown Gospel label include Kierra (Kiki) Sheard, Smokie Norful, Tye Tribbett and Tasha Cobbs
