A suspect led authorities on a high-speed car chase from west Houston to northwest Houston Wednesday afternoon. The car he used to flee? A Smart Car, ironically.

A DPS State Trooper tried to pull over the small black car on I-10 near Kirkwood shortly before noon after the driver was caught speeding at a rate of 92 mph. But the driver, David Wheaton, refused to stop.

The chase ended when Wheaton, 49, finally pulled into the driveway of his home and surrendered to officials. He was then taken into custody.

A Houston Police officer tried to cut him off, but he avoided the attempt.  He pulled into Kinley Street and onto his driveway.  He was promptly arrested.According to troopers, Wheaton smelled as if he had been drinking.

We will have more details as they are available.
