The much awaited space shuttle replica made its way into Clear Lake Channel on its journey to Space Center Houston Friday afternoon. As the replica docked near the Nassau Bay Hilton Friday afternoon, the arrival of the replica kicked off “Shuttlebration 2012″, which will feature a weekend of parties, celebrations and fireworks celebrating the arrival of the craft.

Many were on hand to capture pictures and video of its journey to Houston. The replica which is 123-feet, was loaded on a barge docked at the Kennedy Space Center last Thursday for a ride to Houston.

The Seabrook-Kemah Bridge was shut down around 12:30 p.m. Friday, so the 54-foot-high replica of the shuttle Explorer could pass through into Clear Lake Channel. As crowds gathered to watch, the craft made its way under the bridge just before 1:00 p.m.

Space Center Houston will hold a free street party celebrating the shuttle’s arrival from 2 to 10 p.m. Friday. While the public is invited, the celebration will feature live music, food and fireworks.
