A new grocery chain expanding into the Houston market and that chain is holding job fairs in the area with the promise of more jobs and food choices for Houston. Aldi the discount grocery chain, is slated to open 30 stores in the next three years in Houston; the first priority on the agenda is the hiring of managers.

Hundreds of perspective employees turned in applications for an opportunity of employment with Aldi on Wednesday. The current positions that Aldi is looking to fill come with a potential salary of more than $60,000 a year.

With a promising job market for Houston, the city added 81,000 jobs between March and April, according to statistics. The unemployment rate in Houston is 6.5 percent wich is a figure that is down from close to 8 percent a year ago. Aldi’s plans to open 30 stores over the next three years in Houston and with those stores opening comes the promise of approximately 400 jobs to the area. The first Aldi stores will be opened by the spring of next year.
