The man who was in the driver’s seat of a car that struck and killed two people and their dog on Galveston’s seawall has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Matthew Green Shelton, 27, and a passenger are in stable condition at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Shelton will be booked into Galveston County Jail after his release from the hospital.

Police said bond has been set at $100,000.

According to reports, Steven Louis Hunt, 42, of Galveston, and an acquaintance were walking a dog on Seawall Boulevard about 6:15 p.m. when they were hit Wednesday. Witnesses say it appeared Shelton lost control of the car and it veered into the pedestrians.

The second victim’s name was being withheld until his family can be notified.
