Local parents of two students file a lawsuit against their children’s school Trinity Lutheran Church and School just outside of downtown Houston. Details in the legal filing show parents are upset about a pen pal relationship between their children and a convicted sex offender. Parents insist they were never told about the voluntary project by 4th grade teacher Laura Perry. It states that Perry told her young students that Ricky Rowlett was wrongly charged and they believe the letter writing was designed to influence the court before Rowlett’s trial.

The parents fear the personal information and the letters themselves could have been circulated around the Comal County Jail where Rowlett was housed. Rowlett was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sentenced to 50 years behind bars. As he was being transferred, the letters were found. The parents also stated that the administration knew that the teacher’s husband Blake Perry, had been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography in Harris County. Still, the parents allege he was allowed to have contact with the children at school.

Perry has been fired from the school. The principal is on administrative leave while the school conducts an internal investigation.
