African American churches were once a place where congregations would unite to hear a message from God, fellowship at community events and gather as a safe-haven during times of racial injustice and slavery.
But in the past few decades, the African American church has been under extreme scrutiny from scandals involving homosexuality, molestation, infidelity and even murder.
