Texas Southern University’s Barbara Jordan – Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs is sponsoring a Women for Barbara Breakfast Friday, September 16th 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Hilton Americas – Houston located at 1600 Lamar Street. This event is open to everyone. Special guest speakers for this event will include: The Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, United States House of Representatives, 18th District; Lisa P. Jackson, EPA Administrator; Myrlie Evers-Williams and Luci Baines Johnson Turpin, the daughter of U.S. President Lyndon Johnson. Also attending this event honoring the legacy of the late Barbara Jordan will be national, state and local elected officials; community and corporate leaders.

Following the Women for Barbara Breakfast, Dr. John M. Rudley, President of Texas Southern University, Rose Mary McGowan, sister, Barbara Jordan; The Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, United States House of Representatives, 18th District, Texas; and Ellis Burgoyne, Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President, U.S. Postal Service and Karen Hauser, president, Houston Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will partner to host First-Day-of-Issue Ceremony for the Barbara Jordan Forever commemorative stamp. The ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. CT in the Granville Sawyer Auditorium located on the campus of Texas Southern University.
