Learn life’s lessons through Mistakes or Mentors – Choose Mentors.

“Mentor: Someone whose hindsight can become your foresight” – Unknown Author.“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”- Mahatma Gandhi. God himself said through the writer of Proverbs saying, “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.” Proverbs 11:14; 12:15; 15:22, to list a few. The word “counsel” shows up in the King James Version 137 times. If the God of all, our manufacturer, took the time to speak on counsel, I think we should listen. Question is, will we hearken?

In America, we learn about everything in our pursuit of education, except the two most important subjects of which we will live with for the rest of our lives, money and marriage. We go to school and get great jobs only to squander what we’ve earned on divorce attorneys and child support. Today, divorce cost tax payers an estimated $112 billion a year for aid to broken homes, all due to a lack of education.

 Let’s define mistake and mentor:

                mis·take (noun)

1. An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness.

2. A misconception or misunderstanding.

                men·tor (noun)

  1. A wise and trusted counselor or teacher. There is a passage of scripture that Elaine and I quoted and spoke over our family on the night of our honey moon. It’s Ephesians 5:14-17. We already knew that by God’s Spirit we can know what His will is. The fact that we had gotten married was the manifestation of a revelation God gave me in 1993, that believers have the POWER to know who their spouse is. We, later, discovered and received a revelation from His word in 2 Pet. 1:3-4.After losing everything we owned, having God meant we had everything! He has given us everything we need pertaining to life and godliness. So what does this have to do with mistakes, mentors, education and counseling? Everything!

The western mindset is broken. The great Toyota sticking accelerator recall of 2009 grabbed the attention of commuters around the globe. One of the world’s finest and most dependable cars had a glitch that called for immediate attention. The manufacturer informed all who were affected by the faulty pedal to return to the dealer to have the problem repaired and resolved. Much like the Toyota recall, the institution of marriage in America has a glitch. People are stuck in a runaway relationship going nowhere fast. All who are affected must follow suit and go back to the dealer affiliated with the manufacturer.  A counselor who has a relationship with the manufacturer is the dealer you need in order to get your marriage on the road again.
