The new season of “American Idol” is underway.  Judge Simon Cowell just announced that this will be his final season with the show.  According to an AOL Television poll, the news isn’t sitting well with viewers.  Of the nearly 31-thousand people taking part in the survey, 67-percent say they’ll miss him, noting, quote, “he’s the sole reason I watch ‘Idol’.”  Just ten-percent are glad to see him go, saying they’re, quote, “sick of his mean comments.”  Nearly a quarter of the respondents are refraining from judgement, and will “wait and see” how the show is without him.

The day before “American Idol” launched its ninth season on FOX, Cowell announced that he would not be returning for the reality show’s tenth season.  Instead, he will be developing an American version of the British talent show “The X Factor.”  With Cowell’s departure, “Idol” has lost two of its original judges.  Paula Abdul left the show before the start of this season.  Ellen DeGeneres will be taking her place at the judges’ table alongside Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi.
